A Silent Second...

Another second place finish to another Nightmare team just didn’t have the feel of the first time we did this. Although another Pony qualifier and more teams, 20, the outcome was short of what we hoped for.

This tournament was shortened down to 1 pool play game due to rain in which we won, 13-1 over the Mass Drifters White team, that gave us the fourth seed heading into Sunday. In the process Gabby’s 18 game hitting streak came to and end.

The first game featured Courtney back on the mound for the first time this tournament season with a gem, having her no hitter broken up with 1 out in the seventh as we went on to win 5-1 over the CT Falcons.

Game 2 had Hannah beating the CT Bomber Teal team 10-4.

The next game against the Xtreme Chaos was a battle, 1-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth. Bases were loaded with 2 outs when Haley hit a fly ball to right center which ended up in a collision with the center fielder and right fielder. When the players hit the ground the ball fell out of the fielder’s mitt clearing the bases for a 5-1 lead. We ended up winning 7-1 on a real double play, 6-4-3, to head to The Championship game against the 12U NE Nightmare.

Don’t let the 12U status fool you, these girls can play and play they did, handing us a 12-0 loss! There weren’t many upsides to this game, a couple of good defensive plays, one being a 1-2-3 double play and Gabby going 3-3 out of the 4 hits we got all game.

Highlights: We battered 0.353 as a team with Pip leading the way with a .462 average; only had 6 errors in 5 games. And ended up with a 4-1 record.
